After clear discrimination of Facebook for not banning blasphemous Fan Page, Ministry of Information Technology and Telecom has directed PTA to ban Facebook Page in Pakistan, told us sources close to authority.
A reliable source, who is in direct contact with Secretary MoIT, told ProPakistani that ministry has issued the directive to PTA to ban said blasphemous content in the country.
Ministry of Information Technology directs PTA for banning any URL or whole of website in case of any inappropriate content available on it.
It is yet to be ascertained if the whole Facebook will be banned or just a single URL will be filtered. In both the situations, Step is inline with thousands of Facebook users and according to their urge of boycotting Facebook on May 20th.
It merits mentioning here that a Fan Page on Facebook is encouraging its members to draw Prophet Mohammad’s drawings (Sallallahu Alayhi Wa-aal-hi-Wasallam).
Despite thousands of requests, Facebook didn’t put this page down even it violated Facebook’s own terms of services.
Update: (3:14 PM – May 18, 2010) We have received confirmation from PTA that directive has been issued to all ISPs for blocking a single URL (of the particular Fan Page). Order was issued by Yawar Yasin, Director Enforcement PTA.
PTCL has confirmed the recipient of the order and said that specific URL is in process of being blocked throughout its network.
Update: (8:24 PM – May 18, 2010) Facebook fan page in question is still opening on various ISPs, however, reports are coming that specific URL is inaccessible on selected ISPs. Complete blackout is expected later tonight.

1. When it came to the one-ness and respect of Allah, (whose respect was obligatory on Mohammad PBUH), he made no compromise!! To be heard by ALL, he used to climb a nearby peak and preach to ALL against polytheism (Shirk); and used to get almost beaten to death for it! Similarly, isnt the respect of Mohammad PBUH obligatory on us?? And guys, compared to him, what r we doing? NOTHING!! What is one little temporary ban of one website of one internet when weighed against the respect of a man to whom we owe SO MUCH?!! All our actions are being watched by Allah, and you never know, favouring the ban willingly (or at least not complaining about it) might count for a lot in His eyes! At least I ‘d love to be so fortunate!
2. What have been put forward are mere theories i’m afraid! With the ban, at least they know that unacceptable things wont be accepted. BTW we’d all love to hear from you some CONCRETE steps (1,2,3..) that you would have taken to tackle the issue!
3. The starter of the page (some Miss Sally from Seatle, USA), has already announced her disassociation from the event!! She probably realized that the idea of deliberately hurting a Billion+ Muslims (just because protests from some Muslims in USA had resulted in stopping a blasphemous episode of Comedy Central’s Southpark from being aired) is sheer nonsense!!
4. Do you think Facebook owner is so naive? Look at what he says now.. that Facebook would disallow the objectionable URL in Pakistan but IT WILL NOT BE REMOVED FROM FACEBOOK!! So, it is the conscious decision of Facebook CEO: he would NOT take the page off, no matter how much and how many are hurt by it! FINE then, we understand your mental level Mr CEO, being such an accomplished person and having plenty of brains. BTW what do u expect from a common man you hurt so much!? Even the ban crosses your line?
P.S. We r Muslims! We respect Jesus, and Moses, and Raam, and Buddha. Someone counts that as our weakness? be it!!

let me tell you something all of you out there, yes its not right to disgraced anther religion and prophet, yet I have simple QUESTION to all who have send these comments.ARE YOU THE ONLY MUSLIM PEOPLE????????living in this universe????????look around there is whole Muslim world countries, why there resident Muslim do not do this, think as you do?by doing this who are killing and saving?????????yourselves only people in Pakistan all your own brother n sister is this the teaching of ISLAM to kill your own family???????????????????? I think Pakistan’ name is already been linked in all the major attacks around the Globe?by doing this I don’t see you r doing any good things for your mother land (PAKISTAN) dragging it in street around the world. It wasn’t the idea of IQBAL and Jinnah.
So please think all with cool minds and use your brain to show the world you are educated young people, don’t show them your Illiterate. txn

@ mahjabeen
Facebook will only face lose if a permanent ban on fb is issued. The 2 bn thing are just rumours.
an regarding the thing u heard, that is only for websites with very low traffic. on such websites, the owners get paid when someone clicks on the ad.
but on fb, companies pay before the ad is shown. If a permanent ban is issued, then paki companies will stop giving ads on fb and fb will face loss.
I think that either a perma ban should be issued or the current ban be taken back.

This is a great step from PTA and should be appreciated because there’s been some nasty doing in facebook against our Holy Prophet Hazrat Mohammed (P.B.U.H).

Great action ever taken by Govt. and i am glad to hear that Pakistan was the first country to ban fb and its great to do so because its our duty to protect Prophet Mohammed (SAW) respect with die hard effort and as a muslim no one can tolerate that someone do against our beloved Prophet … Great unity shown by Muslims, it is really good feelings to see all Muslims united again !! It is also a sort of warning to all of websites and links and whatever that if you again try to commit this crime then you might be facing a real challenge to your life also !!

Aoa all Muslim bros nd sisters… We r Muslims nd our religion Islam does nt teach us violence instead it’s de religion of peace so v shud stop threating nonmuslims dat we will kill dem or wage a war etc …. if v do so de image of Islam to de westrn world related to terrorism will develop evn more… I appreciate the banning of fb nd YouTube as well… But v shud always remember dat v r Muslims nd no othr nation, v stand united against the nonmuslims…. Deir image of Islam is nt correct nd v shud do our best to correct it as it is our right and duty to conduct jehad against dem but ere em talkin bout jehad bi qalm…
Hope dat all of us understand de need to do so… JazakAllah … nd asalam o alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatahu…!
