PPP Finds its Wasi Zafar – Corruption

Posted on 07 December 2009 by PakBee - Total hits: 3,582

It seems that the PPP government has finally found its equivalent to Wasi Zafar (the absurd, and often obnoxious, Law Minister in Gen. Musharraf’s government). Listen to the Rt. Hon. Abdul Qayyum Khan Jatoi, Federal Minister for Defence Production, proclaiming that it is the “political right” of every politician to do corruption: “yaar, karrapshun pay humara haq nahiN hai, aur unn ka hai!”:

In all fairness, I should confess that there is a certain bholla-pun and naivety in Mr. Jatoi that is markedly different from the viciousness of Mr. Zafar.

Minister Jatoi does seem to be trying (badly) to make a argument – a silly argument, indeed; but an argument nonetheless. But he may also have hit on a real truth. Not only because so many politicians do indeed believe what he has naively said but even more because we have indeed created a system of governance (through the actions of the politicians, of the military and through the reactions – or lack thereof – from the courts and the media) that smacks of political immunity for the corrupt. Maybe we should listen to what he is saying more carefully, after all.

Of course, the host – Javed Chaudhry – is having a field day; and enjoying it too. A big part of this is the host’s inappropriate badgering and the game of trying to ‘corner the guest’ rather than having a conversation. Its a game played by all our leading hosts. But the fact of the matter is that Mr. Jatoi does himself no favors and looses his cool again and again. Even when the host shows some tarss on the guest, the Minister just keeps digging himself into deeper holes.

Seems like this is a pattern with Minister Jatoi, since he keeps coming for more from Javed Chaudhry. Watch them here too, as the host corners Mr. Jatoi to proclaim that he is himself corrupt (around min. 5:50). And, then, again, dig himself even deeper in a hole – trying to make a ‘point’ but making a fool of himself instead, even as the host tries to give him a way out.

And if you want more, see the next segment, when both Mr. Chaudhry and Mr. Jatoi keep at it.

Terrorism is one catastrophe that destroys our country really badly. After a long time we will be able to watch a Drama that will be based on reality of terrorism and its devastations, Khuda Zameen se Gaya Nahin Hai, a TV2 Production. This new Drama serial is about the War on Terror. It’s a Story of spectacular courage in the face of terror. The story revolves around the Pak Army’s daring hawks that fight to clean their country from terrorism and during the course they lost their lives. It’s a story of Hopes, Courage and Sacrifice. The story highlights different aspects like killing of foreigners, rapes and abuses of women including the main issue of terrorism. The skillful pen of Asghar Nadeem Syed wrote the whole story of this mega drama serial. The Director Kashif Nisar puts his best in exploring this sensitive issue.

Khuda Zameen Se Gaya Nahin

Most recently the Title song and video is being launched. After listening to the melodious song and striking lyrics I must say that it surely will revive the Spirit of Islam. A very well written song by Imran Raza and skillfully sung by Rahat Fatah Ali Khan it will surely leave its mark on the mind of listeners. The song starts with a very catchy stanza,

Hey Surkh Mausam, Ghata Nahin hai

Ghuttan Bohat hai, Hawa Nahin hai

The melody, the lyrics, and the voice everything is just perfect to me. The video of the song itself tells you the whole story.

Talking about the cast of the drama, it a combination of some old and new faces. It includes Nouman Ejaz, Aisha Khan, Ayub Khosa, Syed Jibran, Sara Chaudhry, Rashid Naz, Tipu, Khurram, Azim Sajjad. The new faces that are introduced are Zaman Armaghan Hazir, Captain Zishan Ali Malik, and Faizan Khawaja.

The message is of Peace, Freedom and Mutual Respect and I hope this message will spread all around the country with the help of this great presentation by CSR.

The drama will be aired on Every Sunday at 7:45pm on PTV Home starting from the first week of October.

Laal Band
Laal is a musical band from Pakistan known for singing socialist political songs, especially those written by leftist Urdu poets such as Hazrat Faiz Ahmed Faiz and Hazrat Habib Jalib. The band received mainstream attention during the Lawyers’ Movement, in which it led support to the reinstatement of the then deposed Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry. The band put to music one of the poems written by leading lawyer Aitezaz Ahsan during the movement, “Kal, Aaj, Aur Kal”.

In just one year the band has gained recognition allover Pakistan. They have performed in almost all the major cities as well as many smaller towns. On their fanclub page, Shahram has invited all to join the “Laal Brigade”, a revolutionary brigade of young and enthusiastic revolutionaries committed to the emancipation of the people.

Reminiscent of another great Pakistani band Junoon, Laal has not only managed to reconnect the people of Pakistan to the forgotten revolutionary socialist poets, but also introduced them to the youth. The youth will invariably play an important role in the politics of the country in the years to come.
