KARACHI: The Controller of Examinations cancelled today’s Islamiat paper of matriculation examinations being held under Karachi Matric Board, as the paper was leaked out, Geo News reported Saturday.

According to Examinations Controller, he was informed that Islamiat paper in Matric (science group) was let out through SMS, on this he took action and cancelled the paper.

The new date for today’s cancelled paper would be announced later.

It should be mentioned that today was the first paper of the Matriculation exams being taken by the 150,000 students; however, the paper was cancelled ten minutes before it started..

KARAHCI: Deadly fire has broken out in a chemical storeroom located in Mehmoodabad locality in Karachi which has prompted rescue efforts at an intensive level.

As many as 14 fire tenders have been dispatched to area which are taking part in rescue efforts along with people of locality.

The fire is raging aggressively, said fire brigade sources terming the fire as of 3rd category.

The deadly blazes have also left roof of chemical stockroom collapsed, meanwhile, the fire is on way to engulf closely situated buildings which are being evacuated, sources said.

On February 5, 2010, two suicidal blasts struck the metropolitan city of Karachi killing 15 people and leaving 70 wounded. The first attack mainly targeted the Shia mourners traveling to join the Muharram processions. The second blast took place outside the emergency department of Jinnah Hospital, where the injured were being shifted. The attacks came 40 days after the Ashura bombing that killed over 40 people. KARACHI, Feb 25: Karachi University shocked holders and the hosts NED University 66-45 in the final to win the Inter-university Zone ‘G’ basketball championship at the latter’s courts on Thursday.

The winners enjoyed an edge over their opponents’ right from the start and led 27-17 at half time.

Prolific scorer Akmal Jamil was the backbone of his team’s triumph contributing 22 points. He was ably supported by Mohammad Shabbar 15, Agha M. Ibrahim 10 and Haroon 9.

Arsalan Khan and Wasif Shaukat scored nine points apiece for losers followed by Zainul Abedin 8.Both the teams have qualified for the final rounds being played at Lahore from March 4.

Earlier, NED University outplayed Sir Syed University 72-33 while Karachi University beat Greenwich University 25-20 in the semi-final matches on Wednesday.

The KU and Greenwich match was marred by an ugly incident which led to free for all and a walkout by the latter some eight minutes before final hooter. The match was awarded to the KU after the losers did not turn up in given time. — Sports Correspondent
