The Prince of Pop, Ali Zafar who has always made peppy music, has taken a step in a new direction, the Sufi direction. He tells that his new venture ‘Jhoom‘ is a totally mature Sufi album, something that he has never tried before.

“Jhoom is a sufi album, and it takes my music to another level. It’s different from anything I have ever done before. I think today’s music survives only for a month, and I believe that music should be timeless. I want to be remembered for my music.”

Ali Zafar says that you need to be inspired to write music and my inspiration behind ‘Jhoom’ came from the Coke Studio Season 2 Sessions. He says that he wanted to recreate the magic of Coke Studio in his studio album.

“Over the last few years, I’ve been thinking about what more I could do. I found the answers in the Coke Studio Sessions, where I sang some sufi poetry in a live session. I realized how perfect it was! It was different, mature, and it was an energy that I wanted to recreate in the studio. That’s how Jhoom happened. I’ve grown up listening to Kishore Kumar, Mohammed Rafi and Hemant Kumar. But Kishore Kumar became Kishore Kumar only after he discovered his own style. In my last two albums, their influence on my music was very obvious. So, in Jhoom, I’ve tried to find my own style.”

Ali Zafar also told about how he got his first Hollywood Project.

“I was at the Dubai Fashion Week some time ago, and was performing on the ramp. After the show, Fox executives came up to me and told me that they had been gauging me, and said they wanted one of my tracks on Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps. We negotiated for two days, and the deal was closed after that! So, it’s unbelievable, but my song ‘Dekha‘ will feature in the movie.”

RAWALPINDI: Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Rawalpindi on Monday charged Malik Mumtaz Hussain Qadri in Governor Salman Taseer murder case.

Qadri had confessed to killing Taseer, objecting to his calls to reform the blasphemy law, which sentences to death those convicted of defaming the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH).

One of Qadri’s lawyers, Malik Mohammad Rafiq Khan, told after an anti-terrorism court session held behind closed doors: The judge examined the record and said that apparently the accused committed murder and terrorism.

“The judge read out the charges to the accused. The accused pleaded not guilty,” Khan said in the garrison city of Rawalpindi.

The next hearing will be held on February 26, when witnesses and evidence will be presented, the lawyer added.

Taseer’s killing was the most high-profile political assassination in Pakistan since former prime minister Benazir Bhutto died in a gun and suicide attack on her motorcade at the end of an election rally on December 27, 2007.(AFP)

Pakistan People’s Party’s (PPP) Information Secretary Fauzia Wahab on Monday said that Raymond Davis, the American citizen who killed two people in a crowded area of Lahore last month, enjoys diplomatic immunity
Wahab said that diplomats as well as technical staff of foreign missions enjoy immunity under the Vienna Convention, and Raymond Davis is no exception.

Regarding claims made by the former foreign minister, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, that he had refused to grant a diplomatic visa to Raymond Davis, the information secretary said that Qureshi had violated the party’s discipline by making those claims.
She said that the government has to handle this case with care as the United States is the largest donor of foreign aid to Pakistan.

Shah Mehmood Qureshi, who was dropped from the cabinet when a new, smaller cabinet was announced last week, is said to have annoyed the party leadership “over his divergent opinion on the Raymond Davis issue”.
