SSC Matriculation Exams in Sindh from April 18

KARACHI: The annual examination-2011 of secondary school certificate Part-I and II, (Science and General Group), commonly known as matriculation exams will start all across Sindh on 18th April 2011, Geo News reported.

Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) in different districts in Sindh will conduct exams.

Chairman BISE Karachi Prof. Anwar Ahmed Zai told media that the board had already completed all arrangements for conducting the matriculation exam.

He said the students who have failed to submit their examination forms due to any reason could appear in supplementary exam, adding such a decision has taken by Sindh Governor Dr. Ishratul Ebad Khan.

Chairman said that the candidates could not enter any examination centre without showing valid admit card.

He said more than 311000 male and female candidates will appear in the annual examination-2011 of BISE Karachi, to be held in 225 examination centres established in different private and government’s schools of the city.

He said that the SSC part-I exam would be held from 09:30 am to 12:30 pm, while SSC part-II be held from 02:30 pm to 05:30 pm as per schedule.

In case, a student changes his or her examination centre without permission of BISE Karachi, then action would be taken against the concerned centre superintendent and officers as per law, Prof. Zai said.

Cheating on the Rise at UK Universities

LONDON: Cheating is widespread in British universities, including the prestigious Oxford University, with over 17,000 incidents being recorded during the academic year 2009-2010, a survey has revealed.

The survey of more than 80 universities has found that academic misconduct is soaring at institutions across the UK, with thousands of students caught plagiarising, trying to bribe lecturers and buying essays from the Internet.

Greenwich University recorded the largest number of cheating incidents overall, with 916, compared with 540 in 2005-06; Sheffield Hallam had the second largest number with 801 last year, more than 500 of which were for plagiarism.

Loughborough University reported 151 incidents last year of which 43 were committed by postgraduates while East London University said that among its 733 cases of cheating last year there were 612 of plagiarism.

ISLAMABAD: A student in Islamabad, Ibrahim Shahid, set a new world record by scoring 23 As in Cambridge O level exams.

Shahid, a student of a private school in Islamabad, sat for 24 subjects and scored 23 As.

Attributing his success to his parents, Shahid recalled an incident where his teacher in Australia had written him off, stating that he would “never excel”. He added that every child is special and everyone has their own capabilities.

Earlier, Ali Moeen Nawazish, also a Pakistani student, had set a world record by securing 23 As in A level Cambridge exams.

New World Record Cramming 19 into Smart Car

KARACHI: A group of students from Karachi Grammar School and other schools made history when they set a new Guinness World of Records by accommodating 19 persons in a Smart Car.

This historic event took place at DHA Creek Club, Karachi in front of a Jury and reported worldwide Wednesday in the presence of Speaker Sindh Assembly Nisar Ahmed Khoro who was chief guest on the occasion.

The group led by Aymen Saleem Yousuf squeezed into a standard Smart Car to smash the record ealier set by the Climb Fit Team of Australia when 18 students compressed into a standard Smart Car at the Warringah Mall, Sydney Australia on January 25, 2010.

The jury comprised of Nisar Khoro, Dr. Mirza Ikhtiar Baig Advisor to Prime Minister, Sharmila Farooqui Advisor to CM Sindh on Information, former cricket captain Waseem Akram, former hockey captain and olympian Islahuddin and Ishtiaq Baig Hon. Consul General of Morocco.
