After clear discrimination of Facebook for not banning blasphemous Fan Page, Ministry of Information Technology and Telecom has directed PTA to ban Facebook Page in Pakistan, told us sources close to authority.

A reliable source, who is in direct contact with Secretary MoIT, told ProPakistani that ministry has issued the directive to PTA to ban said blasphemous content in the country.

Ministry of Information Technology directs PTA for banning any URL or whole of website in case of any inappropriate content available on it.

It is yet to be ascertained if the whole Facebook will be banned or just a single URL will be filtered. In both the situations, Step is inline with thousands of Facebook users and according to their urge of boycotting Facebook on May 20th.

It merits mentioning here that a Fan Page on Facebook is encouraging its members to draw Prophet Mohammad’s drawings (Sallallahu Alayhi Wa-aal-hi-Wasallam).

Despite thousands of requests, Facebook didn’t put this page down even it violated Facebook’s own terms of services.

Update: (3:14 PM – May 18, 2010) We have received confirmation from PTA that directive has been issued to all ISPs for blocking a single URL (of the particular Fan Page). Order was issued by Yawar Yasin, Director Enforcement PTA.

PTCL has confirmed the recipient of the order and said that specific URL is in process of being blocked throughout its network.

Update: (8:24 PM – May 18, 2010) Facebook fan page in question is still opening on various ISPs, however, reports are coming that specific URL is inaccessible on selected ISPs. Complete blackout is expected later tonight.

Great action ever taken by Govt. and i am glad to hear that Pakistan was the first country to ban fb and its great to do so because its our duty to protect Prophet Mohammed (SAW) respect with die hard effort and as a muslim no one can tolerate that someone do against our beloved Prophet … Great unity shown by Muslims, it is really good feelings to see all Muslims united again !! It is also a sort of warning to all of websites and links and whatever that if you again try to commit this crime then you might be facing a real challenge to your life also !!

A great decision by LHC and PTA banning face-book.those who are saying that banning wont help need to think a little.well we Muslims are about 47% of face-book users and we have been asking face-book to stop this event but face-book was just ignoring us. If we unite and leave face-book all at once face-book looses 47% of its users. with this i think next time something like this event happens face-book will listen to us and will give importance to our beliefs.

What I say is WHY Pakistan is first to ban facebook Where is Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Eqypt and all Muslim country should ban facebook. Seriously facebook is just time wasting for many Pakistani peoples. I think Saudi Arabia is just showing themself Islamic country seriously there are not true muslim. Why they dont ban all foreign products.

why Drawing Hazrat Muhammad(P.B.U.H)Is freedom of speech?there is nothing else in the universe to be drawn????i dont consider it freedom of speech, when u know that such an act will cause restlessness and anger among Muslims
Facebook has to stop such activities.although the ban isnt going to force fb to change its policies but still v hav registered our protest and v hav done so very strongly.
