After clear discrimination of Facebook for not banning blasphemous Fan Page, Ministry of Information Technology and Telecom has directed PTA to ban Facebook Page in Pakistan, told us sources close to authority.
A reliable source, who is in direct contact with Secretary MoIT, told ProPakistani that ministry has issued the directive to PTA to ban said blasphemous content in the country.
Ministry of Information Technology directs PTA for banning any URL or whole of website in case of any inappropriate content available on it.
It is yet to be ascertained if the whole Facebook will be banned or just a single URL will be filtered. In both the situations, Step is inline with thousands of Facebook users and according to their urge of boycotting Facebook on May 20th.
It merits mentioning here that a Fan Page on Facebook is encouraging its members to draw Prophet Mohammad’s drawings (Sallallahu Alayhi Wa-aal-hi-Wasallam).
Despite thousands of requests, Facebook didn’t put this page down even it violated Facebook’s own terms of services.
Update: (3:14 PM – May 18, 2010) We have received confirmation from PTA that directive has been issued to all ISPs for blocking a single URL (of the particular Fan Page). Order was issued by Yawar Yasin, Director Enforcement PTA.
PTCL has confirmed the recipient of the order and said that specific URL is in process of being blocked throughout its network.
Update: (8:24 PM – May 18, 2010) Facebook fan page in question is still opening on various ISPs, however, reports are coming that specific URL is inaccessible on selected ISPs. Complete blackout is expected later tonight.

@ Mahjabeen Bukhari :-
What are u trying to say actually is that “FB gets paid when we click on an ad” if I’m wrong correct me
Fb doesnt get paid by the number of clicks. Its a global advertisement rule that the websites with heavy traffic get paid before the ad gets on the website. While the websites with very less traffic has to wait before someone clicks on ads on their websites to get paid. understood?
Fb will only not get ads from Pakistani companies and this loss will be compensated by the lesser traffic on FB servers.
Why ban FB? Fb is not associated in any way with that page/event. I have seen ppl that dont know how to report a page/event and they just join “we are against that day” kinda groups. Thats not the way to get that page closed.
@ Fatima :-
I disagree with u. We have to present a better image of Islam. We have to answer to the misunderstandings those people have about Islam.
I have seen Pakistanis that abused non-Muslims when the ask something about Islam. We have to change our attitude. There were Pakistanis on FB that were running very good Islamic groups and they were answering to the queries of the non Muslims.

All this stuff sounds funny and a very biggest idiocy. sab bhair chaal ka shikar hain. to me it just sounds like billi ko dekh ker kabootar ankhain band ker lay aur samjhay billi chali gai. you can watch desi tottay on every 2nd website all that porn sheeit availabe everywhere. and no body take any step about it. even we all know about these local and indian sites. as for as the images issue is concern, all i want to ask what our Ambassadors are doing? in ko jhak marnay ko rakha hai kya. pakistan may facebook block kernay se what would happen? N O T H I N G. be positive buddies this is not the way like you are acting. We all love our Prophet and every religious values. open your facebook go to specific site and shoot the bastards with your feedback. give them bulk fires till they kneel down.

All Muslims didn’t threaten “South Park,” a few Muslims did. Intentionally offending all Muslims by portraying the prophet Muhammad is
gratuitously mean-spirited and disrespectful. The way to make the point that America insists on free expression is to embolden some of
our more lily-livered institutions (the media, academia) to exhibit some fortitude and sense of principle when free expression is under
attack. It is not to cause random, wide-spread discomfort to every Muslim in the world. The United States stands for diversity and respect
for all religions. If a comic, or a satirist, or a critic chooses to do otherwise, that is legitimate, protected expression, even if it
is offensive. Urging everyone to be offensive, however, violates ethical principles to support Constitutional ones.
Burning a flag is protected expression, but we don’t insult millions of patriots and veterans by “Flag Burning Day” to show those who
would make the act illegal that they are wrong. Excising the word “nigger” from Huckleberry Finn is impermissible censorship, but
declaring a “Write the Word ‘Nigger’ Day” would be unimaginable. I have explained why trying to ban the word “retard” from the language
is an offense to free thought and expression, but I would recoil from a “Use ‘Retard’ Day,” which would be pointlessly cruel.
Al Qaeda with ALL Muslims!
The internet debate has been reduced to hype and hysteria, rather than reasoned and thoughtful ideas. It is a place where those who speak
the loudest (not the most introspect) and incite most ignorant get most of the air-time. (“Let’s draw Mohammed riding in a wheel-barrel!” for eg.)
The ‘dumbing-down’ of America is a reality now. People (not philosopher-kings) see no reason to go very deeply by actually reading a book
or two, or even understanding the history and overall picture of the situation before logging in on a blog and reducing the various debates
into submission of short-sightedness and gossip.

i would haveto agree with Rana Hammad; every social networking site should form a code of conduct aginst making any religious groups or any religious discussion. Special religious network sites should be formed for that if they really want to.
that still doesn’t make PTA’s action right
